Government in Arkansas is the signature publication of the League of Women Voters of Arkansas. This is an excellent resource for librarians, elected officials, for social studies, history or government classrooms and anyone who wishes to understand the structure and functions of the government of the state of Arkansas.

Reviewed and edited in 2004 by Douglas and Margaret Reed of Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, the book was re-released in September 2004 and is available from the Educators Book Depository in Little Rock. This edition has been updated to include two new chapters: The Office of the Governor and Constitutional Officers; and Political Parties and Interest Groups. Other helpful graphics include: tables; district maps; figures; and an appendix. Each chapter concludes with an “Arkansas in Context” analysis of how Arkansas compares to other states and web resources related to the chapter

In September 2007 the Arkansas Board of Education adopted Government in Arkansas as a social studies and history supplemental textbook for grades 9-12 in Arkansas. Government in Arkansas will be available to schools on July 1, 2008. The Reeds and the League will prepare a teacher’s edition and additional instructional resources for adoption and release in the future.
